Filipinos in Egypt Receive Food Care Packages from International Organization for Migration Egypt

CAIRO 22 July 2020 — The Philippine Embassy in Maadi, Cairo received food care packages courtesy of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Egypt for distribution to Filipino communities on 21 and 22 July 2020.
The food care packages, which include staples like rice, pasta and flour, canned food items and hygiene kits, were provided in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic which continuously affect migrant communities. The packages were intended to benefit a total of 229 members of the Filipino communities in Cairo and Alexandria.
Philippine Ambassador to Egypt Sulpicio M. Confiado expressed his appreciation to IOM Chief of Mission to the Arab Republic of Egypt Mr. Laurent de Boeck and to his accompanying delegates for their continuing support and assistance to the overseas Filipinos in Egypt.
The Philippine Embassy in Cairo sought the assistance of Filipino community groups in identifying the most vulnerable members of the community to be beneficiaries of the IOM food care packages such as those who lost their livelihood due to the pandemic, single parents, medically incapacitated, senior citizens and other Filipinos stranded in Egypt due to the closure of airports.
On 22 July 2020, IOM Egypt will also be delivering 48 food care packages at the Eglise du Sacre-Coeur in El-Ibrahimeya in Alexandria, for distribution to Filipinos living in said city.
IOM Egypt is one of the Philippine Embassy’s partner in ensuring the welfare and protection of Filipino migrant communities. The Philippine Embassy and IOM Egypt had jointly conducted activities to raise awareness on migrants’ rights and migrant women empowerment. The Embassy and IOM are also partners in capacity building for the Embassy staff and the Filipino community, and in sharing of information and best practices on combatting human trafficking. END
