185 Filipinos in Dubai Returned Home through DFA’s COVID-19 Pandemic Repatriation Program

DUBAI 27 July 2020 — The Department of Foreign Affairs, through the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai, brought home a total of 185 Filipinos in Dubai on 25 July 2020.

This group of Dubai-based Filipinos followed last week’s batch of 205 who were able to return to the Philippines through the DFA’s Assistance-to-Nationals funding. Among those who returned to their families in the Philippines were those considered priority for repatriation, namely: women in distress who were given shelter at the Migrant Workers and Other Overseas Filipinos Resource Center (MWOFRC) in Dubai, overseas Filipinos released from prison, pregnant women, families with minors, elderly persons, and persons with medical condition. The rest were tourist visa holders and resident visa holders who were in distress due to job displacements brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic as well as those who availed themselves of the ongoing amnesty for immigration-related violations.

To date, the Consulate General has repatriated 815 Filipinos since the COVID-19 pandemic began. The Consulate General is currently preparing for the repatriation of hundreds/thousands more in the coming weeks. END
