300 Filipinos in Vietnam Join 2nd Batch of Repatriation to PH

 Hanoi Repat 1

HANOI 27 July 2020 — The Philippine Embassy in Hanoi helped repatriate 300 Filipinos through a special Philippine Airlines commercial flight organized by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on 25 July 2020.

The DFA-chartered flight had two stops, one in Ho Chi Minh City and another in Hanoi, boarding 178 and 122 passengers, respectively. Some of the repatriates, including seafarers, were stranded in Vietnam due to flight cancellations while most were adversely affected by economic difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Philippine Embassy provided 41 Filipinos in this batch with hostel accommodation and food allowance while waiting for their repatriation. Meanwhile, the Philippine Embassy made representations with Vietnam’s Immigration Department to secure exit permits for nine repatriates.

This was the second repatriation flight for Vietnam-based Filipinos. A total of 143 Filipinos joined the first batch of repatriation last 18 April 2020.

In recognition of the Philippine Embassy's assistance to distressed Filipinos who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in Vietnam, the Embassy was conferred a special citation during the virtual DFA Day commemoration on 23 July 2020. END
