02 May 2014 - The Filipino European Migrants International Chess Academy (FEMICA), in cooperation with the Philippine Embassy in Rome, held the “3rd Ambassador Virgilio A. Reyes, Jr. Cup— Open Semi-Blitz Rapid Chess Tournament” on April 13 at the Embassy’s Social Hall.
A total of 50 players – Filipinos, Italians and even an Indonesian– played in the tournament.
In his message to the participants, Philippine Ambassador to Italy Virgilio A. Reyes, Jr. highlighted the academic and social benefits of chess and its potential to foster friendship between the peoples of the Philippines and Italy.
Italian national, Paolo Capetile, emerged as the champion of the 3rd Ambassador’s Cup.

2nd Runner- Evy Lindiawati (Indonesia)
3rd Runner- Leonardo del Vecchio (Italy)

The Philippine Embassy encourages all the youth and second-generation Filipinos as well as their parents to continue participating in this activity provided by the Embassy and FEMICA, with the hope of discovering the next Filipino Chess Grandmaster in Italy. END
