BRUSSELS 30 July 2020 — The Philippine Embassy in Brussels, Belgium and the Philippine Embassy in The Hague,  Netherlands, in partnership with the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Brussels (PTIC Brussels), conducted the first ever webinar on e-commerce entitled “Social Selling 101: Earn from Home” on 25 July 2020.

The webinar featured Ms. Myey Moens, a Belgian-based Filipina entrepreneur who successfully launched in 2018 her online chocolate business “Theo & Brom: The World’s First Belgian Tableya.”

Philippine Trade Representative Benedict Uy of PTIC Brussels welcomed the participants, most of whom were overseas Filipinos in Belgium, Luxembourg and The Netherlands. Philippine Ambassador in Brussels Eduardo José A. de Vega and Philippine Ambassador in the Netherlands Jaime Victor Ledda delivered their respective greetings and messages to Ms. Moens and the participants, both emphasizing the importance of e-commerce in helping Filipinos overseas and even those back home to find alternative sources of income during this time of crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In her presentation, Ms. Moens shared her experience on how she was able to set up her business through social selling and how she was able to find an alternative business venture to sustain her original chocolate business during the pandemic. Ms. Moens also shared some inspirational stories on how some of her friends in the Philippines were able to find ways to do business during the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically through social selling using various social media platforms.  She also pointed out the Do’s and Don’t’s in social selling, as well as tips on sustaining the business and making it grow using e-commerce.  The participants actively participated in the open forum and expressed their appreciation for the knowledge they learned from the TNK webinar, which may still be accessed via the PTIC Brussels Facebook page.

Ambassador de Vega praised Ms. Moens for her presentation and noted that she was also a speaker at last year’s TNK forum which was held physically in Brussels. “Ms. Moens was prominently featured in a local magazine for expats,  where she was quoted as affirming that ‘Nothing is more powerful than a made up mind.’ This is the kind of attitude which shows the resilience and determination of the Filipino to succeed despite adversity,” he remarked.

This TNK Webinar on E-commerce is the first in the series of webinars being planned by the PTIC in coordination with the Philippine embassies in Belgium and The Netherlands.  The next webinar is scheduled for 08 August 2020 and will feature franchising, with the participation of Mr. Chris Lim, CFE, Director for ASEAN and Special Projects of the Philippine Franchise Association.  END
