02 May 2014- The best of Philippine furniture design was showcased at this year’s Salone Internazionale del Mobile, the world’s largest furniture trade fair, held on April 8 at the Fiera Milano in Milan, Italy.
The Philippine Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM) put together a team of Philippine furniture designers who exhibited the best of Filipino craftsmanship and ingenuity in furniture design.
Curated by famed Filipino designer Budji Layug, select furniture pieces from Philippine makers were displayed at the Design Philippines stand. Internationally-renowned Filipino furniture designer, Kenneth Cobonpue, showcased his own collection at the adjoining stand.
Together with Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Jesus Yabes, Executive Director Reynaldo Catapang and Consul General in Milan Marichu Mauro, Philippine Ambassador to Italy Ambassador Virgilio A. Reyes, Jr. visited the Design Philippines exhibition booths to show solidarity and support the Philippine furniture designers and makers.
The Salone Internazionale del Mobile is a furniture fair held annually in Milan. It is the largest trade fair of its kind in the world. The exhibition features the latest in furniture design from countries around the world. It is considered a leading venue for the display of new products by designers of furniture, lighting and other home furnishings. END
