ASEAN-Nairobi Committee Commemorates ASEAN Day 2020

NAIROBI 17 August 2020 – Philippine Ambassador to Kenya Alex G. Chua, Madame Marie Marla Chua, and Philippine Embassy in Nairobi officials joined the other members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Committee in Nairobi in the commemoration of the 53rd Anniversary of the Founding of the ASEAN through the conduct of a simple Flag Raising Ceremony at the Royal Thai Embassy in Nairobi on 07 August 2020.

The highlight of the program was the hoisting of the ASEAN flag accompanied by the singing of the ASEAN Hymn.  

Ambassador Chua remarked on the need to reaffirm that partnership is key to spreading knowledge about ASEAN in East Africa despite the COVID-19 pandemic. He underscored that ASEAN is doing its part to support the Kenyan Government’s efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

The luncheon that followed featured different and colorful traditional dishes which were enjoyed by representatives of the different ASEAN Missions, all while observing COVID-19-prevention protocols, such as social distancing.

The ASEAN-Nairobi Committee is composed of the Heads of Missions of the ASEAN countries present in Nairobi, namely: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand. END
