PH Ambassador to Japan Calls On Japanese Defense Minister KONO Taro

TOKYO 01 September 2020 – Philippine Ambassador to Japan Jose C. Laurel V called on Japanese Defense Minister KONO Taro on 28 August 2020 to discuss developments in the Philippines-Japan defense cooperation. Both sides affirmed their commitment to foster closer collaboration.
As part of closer defense ties, both sides referred to the recent signing of a contract for a negotiated government-to-government procurement by the Department of National Defense from Mitsubishi Electric Corporation of an air surveillance radar system, in accordance with the Philippines-Japan Transfer of Equipment and Technology Agreement.
The deal, the first of its kind for Japan, plays a significant role in maintaining peace and stability and represents another milestone in the Philippines-Japan defense cooperation. With it, both countries enjoy a strengthened strategic partnership, with security as a pillar in diverse bilateral engagements. END
