PH Ambassador to Japan Witnesses the Ceremonial Handover of MUFG’s Donation Letter to AFSJ to Benefit Filipino Students in Japan

TOKYO 01 September 2020 – Philippine Ambassador to Japan Jose C. Laurel V witnessed the ceremonial handover of the letter of donation from Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc (MUFG) to the Association of Filipino Students in Japan (AFSJ) during an online ceremony held on 28 August 2020.
MUFG was represented by Mr. Takayoshi Futae, Member of the Board, Senior Managing Executive Officer, Chief Executive, Global Commercial Banking Business Unit and Chief Operating Officer–International; Mr. Akira Watanabe, Corporate Planning Division Managing Director and Deputy Head; Mr. Kanji Nishiyama, Global Commercial Banking Planning Division Director; and Mr. Ayano Sato, Vice President, Corporate Planning Division.
The AFSJ was led by its President, Mr. Patrick Razo, with Vice President for Internal Affairs Christian Kalaw, Vice President for Alumni Affairs Ea Kristine Tulin, and Vice President for Socio-Cultural Affairs Clyde Co Soriano.
The Embassy presented Certificates of Appreciation to MUFG and AFSJ during the same online ceremony on 28 August 2020. This is in recognition of MUFG’s generous donation and AFSJ’s continued support for Filipino students. MUFG has collaborated with AFSJ for assistance in implementing the program and distributing the donation to the concerned Filipino students.
In his message, Ambassador Laurel mentioned that it is very fortunate that the Filipino community continues to receive such donations and support for international students from the Philippines who are having financial difficulty due to the COVID-19 situation in Japan. The Embassy looks forward to AFSJ’s updates on their current batch of students receiving assistance as well as on the plans in the coming months for the remaining donation.
MUFG is a Japanese financial services company with headquarters in Tokyo. MUFG bank was established in 2006 through the merger of the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi and UFJ Bank. It has offices in Japan and in 40 other countries including a Manila Branch located in Makati City.
MUFG has supported investment and business activity in the Philippines, both through their Manila Branch and their local partner, Security Bank Corporation (SBC). MUFG continues to be grateful to the Philippine Government for its ongoing assistance in their endeavors in the country. They also hope to contribute to the development of the Philippine economy. END
