05 May 2014 – Mr. Ivan Lazarte and Ms. Kristel Claire Colendrino, both Third Year BS Applied Physics students majoring in Instrumentation at the College of Science of the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) in Manila, called on Consul General Anne Jalando-on Louis on April 28 at the Philippine Consulate General in Sydney.
Mr. Lazarte and Ms. Colendrino are undertaking a two and a half month internship programme at the Faculty of Science and Information Technology of the University of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the University of Newcastle and the University of Sto. Tomas signed in 2013. They arrived in Sydney on April 25, the first batch from UST to undergo this internship program.
During the call, Mr. Lazarte and Ms. Colendrino discussed their experience with Consul General Louis and the research that they will be doing at the University of Newcastle. The Consul General informed the students about the science centers in NSW and encouraged them to visit them during their stay in the state.
The Consul General wished Ms. Lazarte and Ms. Colendrino well in their studies and internship and encouraged them to make the most of the opportunity provided to them, with a view to using their knowledge and skills for the benefit of the Philippines. END
