DJIBOUTI 01 September 2020 — The Philippine Embassy in Cairo, through its cooperation with the Filipino in Djibouti Community or FILDJIBCOM, a Filipino community organization, distributed food care packs to a total of 292 members of the Filipino community in Djibouti. The food aid assistance was made possible through the funding provided by the Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila.

Since July 2020, the Embassy has been closely coordinating with FILDJIBCOM President Archie M. Completado in the identification of Filipino beneficiaries most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, coordination with local food banks/groceries and finally, the distribution of food care packs at the Djibouti Bawadi Mall on 28 August 2020.

The recipients included students, single parents, senior citizens and those who lost their jobs due to the pandemic. Upon receiving his food pack, Mr. Albert Paul Caoile, a Filipino worker in Djibouti Camp Lemonnier said, “our heartfelt appreciation for the unselfish effort of the Philipppine Embassy in Cairo, Egypt and also to FILDJIBCOM, headed by Mr. Archie "Kim" Completado  who made this event possible even during this uncertain time of COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr. Edom Germai Bocar, a student in Djibouti said, “I am thrilled because of the support of the Philippine government. I am also thankful for the strong cooperation between our Embassy in Cairo and FILDJICOM (FDC). Kudos to FDC. I am extremely grateful.”

Mr. Completado said “I am happy for the successful execution and distribution of the Food Care Packs, through the kind support of the Philippine Government. The Filipinos in Djibouti have shown patience and resilience, and have survived this pandemic. On behalf of FILDJIBCOM, I would like to express our appreciation for the generosity we have received. Ang FILDJIBCOM: ‘Dahil sa Pilipino, Para sa Pilipino (Because of the Filipinos and for the Filipinos).’ This is evidence of Bayanihan to Heal as One. Thank you and Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!

The food care packs or ayuda, is part of the Philippine government’s relief support as the country addresses the impact of the pandemic on the lives of the Filipino communities both at home and overseas.

Since the onset of the pandemic, the Philippine Embassy in Cairo has already distributed about 900 food bags to members of the Filipino community in Egypt and Djibouti. It will continue to explore ways to extend assistance to other affected Filipinos living and working in Eritrea, Ethiopia and the Sudan. END
