PH Ambassador Meets Officials of Brunei’s Top Islamic University

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN 01 September 2020 – Philippine Ambassador to Brunei Christopher B. Montero continued to push for stronger cooperation between tertiary institutions of the Philippines and Brunei Darussalam in a meeting with top officials of the Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Brunei’s first national Islamic University on 26 August 2020.
In his discussions with UNISSA Rector Dr. Haji Norarfan Bin Haji Zainal and Deputy Rector Dr. Mohammed Hussain Ahmad, Ambassador Montero cited the importance of fostering closer engagement and collaboration between UNISSA and Philippine universities offering Islamic education as a platform to properly impart knowledge on Islam and its teachings to young Filipino Muslims.
Ambassador Montero likewise welcomed the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UNISSA with Mindanao State University Tawi-Tawi College of Technology and Oceanography as a platform to intensify academic cooperation and exchanges between the two countries. Aside from MSU Tawi-Tawi, UNISSA also has existing MoUs with MSU Marawi, MSU General Santos City, and MSU Iligan Institute of Technology.
Aside from education cooperation, Ambassador Montero also discussed stronger collaboration with UNISSA in the development of the Philippines’ halal industry.
