OSLO 02 September 2020 — The Philippine Embassy in Oslo had an interactive dialogue with the Filipino crew of Hurtigruten’s Roald Amundsen presently docked in Tromsø, Norway on 24 August 2020.
Philippine Ambassador to Norway Jocelyn Batoon-Garcia, Deputy Chief of Mission and Consul General Maria Elena P. Algabre and Vice Consul Josel Mostajo joined the video call with the crew through Zoom.
Ambassador Garcia thanked the crew for their patience, hard work and dedication despite the challenges that they faced, particularly when some of them became infected with COVID-19 in the first week of August. They discussed the way forward for the crew, considering the suspension of luxury cruises in Norway. The crew also had questions for the Embassy personnel, which were answered by Ambassador Garcia.
The Embassy assured them that it will do its utmost to assist them with their needs and that it is in close contact with the management of Hurtigruten to promote and protect the welfare of Filipino seafarers on board its vessels. END
