PH Embassy, ASEAN Committee Santiago Welcome New Director of the Asia Pacific Directorate

SANTIAGO 07 September 2020 – The Philippine Embassy in Santiago and the ASEAN Committee in Santiago (Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam) welcomed the new Director for Asia Pacific (DIRAPAC) Carlos Olguin Cigarroa in an online meeting arranged by the Embassy of Vietnam as current Chair of the ACS on 04 September 2020.
Director Olguin was Chile’s former Ambassador to Algiers, Minister Counsellor in Argentina and Alternate Ambassador to the UN Security Council, where he said he had fond memories of close interaction with ASEAN friends and colleagues. He also served as the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Director for Planning, Director for Multilateral Policies and Deputy Director for South America. He mentioned that he has visited Manila several times, as well as other places in Luzon and Cebu, for both business and trips with his family. He replaced Ambassador Claudio Rojas who is now Chile’s Ambassador-designate to the Philippines.
All ACS Embassies highlighted their keen desire to deepen bilateral and multilateral relations with Chile through the new DIRAPAC leadership. Philippine Ambassador to Chile Ma. Teresita C. Daza, on the part of the Philippines, informed Director Olguin that it looks forward to maintaining the positive momentum from the 5th PHL-CHL Bilateral Consultation Mechanism (BCM) / Political Consultations held in 08 May 2019, and completing the concrete Action Points in the areas of trade and investment, disaster risk reduction, agriculture, tourism, culture and others identified during the BCM. More importantly, the Philippines invited Director Olguin to join the Philippine Ambassador in Santiago and the Chilean Embassy in Manila in their planned year-long activities, as well as in coming up with new ones, to celebrate the forthcoming 75th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Philippines and Chile on 04 July 2021.
