PH Consul General Visits Site for Hong Kong’s Universal Community Testing Program

HONG KONG 10 September 2020 – Philippine Consul General to Hong Kong Raly L. Tejada visited one of the facilities being used for Hong Kong’s Universal Community Testing Program (UCTP) at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Wanchai on 09 September 2020.

Consul General Tejada was received by Dr. Raymond Ho from the Centre for Health Protection (CHP), and Dr. Wiley Lam and Ms. Mary Foong from the Hong Kong Health Department.

Consul General Tejada was given a quick walk-through and witnessed first-hand the procedures at the testing center.

Consul General Tejada, along with several Consulate staff, registered for the free-testing program and took the swab tests on-site.

The UCTP was launched on 01 September 2020 to provide a one-off free and voluntary testing service for members of the public and in order to identify asymptomatic COVID-19 patients in the community for early identification, early isolation and early treatment to cut the community transmission chain. Community testing centers were set up in all districts across the territory.

Appropriate infection control and social distancing measures have been put in place at the centers as approved by the Department of Health. The public may set appointments online by providing their personal information and selecting the testing location and time slot.

As of 08 September 2020, a total of 1,197,000 have registered online for the program and have been tested. Hong Kong is home to close to 230,000 Filipinos, the largest ethnic minority in the territory.

The Consulate General renewed its call to the Filipino Community to consider participating in the free and voluntary UCTP. END
