PH Embassy Donates PH Books to International School in Brunei

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN 11 September 2020 – In line with its public diplomacy initiatives, the Sentro Rizal of the Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam donated 47 Filipiniana books for the Asian Corner Project of the Seri Mulia Sarjana International School (SMSIS), a private educational institution catering to both local Bruneian and international students, on 10 September 2020 at the Philippine Chancery.
Philippine Ambassador to Brunei Christopher B. Montero handed over the donation to SMISIS officials led by Deputy Principal Mr. Joel C. Espiritu, together with Head of Academics Elvira Sacdalan De Luna, Student Council Adviser Joseph Machado Cabrera, and Student Relations Officer Sitti Mariam Abdullah. A total of three SMSIS students namely, Dave Francis Mendoza Bautista, Muhammad, and Kara Ward, were also present to convey the school’s appreciation for the Embassy’s donation.
The donated books consisted of children’s books written in Filipino with English translation, literary works by Filipino authors such as Bienvenido N. Santos and Paz Marquez-Benitez, coffee table books about the Philippines, its history and people, and tourism books and brochures.
“The Philippine Embassy is delighted to be a part of the 'Asian Corner Project' of the Seri Mulia Sarjana International School. We hope that the students will enjoy discovering wonderful stories and interesting facts about the Philippines,” Ambassador Montero remarked.
SMSIS is a private education institution registered with the Brunei Ministry of Education. Currently, it has a total of 83 Filipino students and 22 Filipino teachers. Its "Asian Corner Project" aims to promote love for reading and encourage students to read and discover interesting facts about an Asian country. END
