TEHRAN 15 September 2020 – The Philippine Embassy in Tehran assisted three kababayan working as sushi chefs for Nakaya Restaurant in facilitating their trip to the Philippines on 10 September 2020. The overseas Filipinos had encountered difficulties and delays in traveling home due to multiple flight cancellations over several weeks owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As COVID-19 severely impacted the food and restaurant business all over the world, the three skilled professionals decided to return to the Philippines after their combined tenure in the company of 26 years. They were joined by another locally stranded Filipino who has not been able to fly out of Tehran since April.
This latest development brings the Embassy’s total number of assisted Filipinos this year to 304, the largest of which was the group of 257 overseas Filipinos who were affected by the lockdown in the Republic of Uzbekistan. END
