XIAMEN 17 September 2020 – The Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen successfully coordinated the repatriation of eight Filipino seafarers from Fujian Province to the Philippines on 12 September 2020.

The Filipino seafarers have been stranded in the waters of Ningde City, Fujian Province onboard Chinese fishing vessel He Li 1 Hao since 20 May 2020, when they were not allowed to disembark in Singapore on their way to the Philippines due to travel restrictions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

After months of negotiations involving the seafarers’ Chinese employer, the Chinese government, and the Philippine government, represented by the Consulate General, the Filipino fishermen were allowed to transfer to another Chinese fishing vessel, Ju Long Jia Ya, and were finally brought back to Manila.
