06 May 2014 - The Philippine Consulate General in Sydney organized a program on April 30 to launch its activities to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Apolinario Mabini in July this year.
The program was attended by representatives from Filipino community organizations, such as the Plaza Filipino, the Order of the Knights of Rizal (OKOR), the Rizal Park Movement of Campbelltown (RPMC), and the Alliance of Philippine Community Organizations (APCO).
Philippine Consul Marford Angeles provided a brief background on the life of Apolinario Mabini and the important role he played in the Philippine Revolution, which is reflected in the theme for this year’s commemorative celebration, “Talino at Paninindigan.”
Philippine Consul General in Sydney Anne Jalando-on Louis presented an overview of activities lined up in New South Wales for the sesquicentennial celebration. She encouraged the Filipino community to display the official logo and theme and to initiate their own activities to commemorate this important historical event.
The program for the launch included the presentation by Filipino-Australian visual artist Daisy Ann Gonzales-Cumming of her painting of Apolinario Mabini which she will bring to Manila to donate to the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) for the anniversary celebration. Ms. Cumming’s painting depicts Mabini in various stages of his life from his humble beginnings in Batangas to his education and his life during the Philippine Revolution. END
