PH Ambassador to Egypt Presents Credentials to Djibouti President

CAIRO 22 September 2020 – Philippine Ambassador to Egypt Sulpicio M. Confiado presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Djibouti Ismail Omar Guelleh on 21 September 2020. Moreover, Ambassador Confiado presented the open copies of his Letters of Credence to Foreign Minister Mahmoud Ali Youssouf earlier on the same day. Ambassador Confiado conveyed the greetings and best wishes of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. to the President and the Foreign Minister, respectively.

Ambassador Confiado conveyed the Philippines’ fast growing interest in Africa, with the hope of expanding its engagement and cooperation with Djibouti especially in fisheries and agriculture, vocational and technical education and higher education.

The Chairman of the Djibouti Ports & Free Zones Authority opened the possibility for Philippine locators in the zone. He expressed interest for Philippine “jeepneys” to be produced in the zone, and be sold locally and exported to other African Countries

Ambassador Confiado reiterated the Philippines’ request for the Djibouti Government’s assistance in the repatriation of the nine Filipino seafarers. He conveyed the same request during his meetings with the Foreign Minister and the Chairman of the Djibouti Ports and Free Zones Authority. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and the Ports Authority assured the Philippine side of their support and assistance on this request.

The Ambassador and Madame Priscila R. Confiado hosted a simple reception at the Nakheel Ballroom of Djibouti Kempinski Palace, attended by MFA Officials, members of the Diplomatic Corps, and the Filipinos in Djibouti Community. In his message, Ambassador Confiado conveyed the resolve of the Philippine Embassy in Cairo to strengthen the relationships and build partnerships with all the stakeholders present. END
