PH Consulate General in Chicago Honors Healthcare Frontliners, Theater Group for their Heroism, Activism during Filipino-American History Month Kickoff

CHICAGO 12 October 2020 – The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago and Filipino Community led the virtual 2020 Filipino American History Month (FAHM) Kick-Off Ceremony on 02 October 2020.
The Philippine Consulate General and the members of the Filipino-American Community commemorated the passage of Senate Resolution 298 by the US Senate on 01 October 2009, and House Resolution 780 on 02 November 2009, formally recognizing the month of October as Filipino-American History Month.
In her welcome remarks, Philippine Consul General to Chicago Gina A. Jamoralin congratulated the Filipino-American National Historical Society and the rest of the Filipino community in the Midwest for organizing the Kick-Off ceremony.
In line with this year's theme, "The History of Filipino Activism", the FAHM Awards Committee recognized remarkable individuals who embody exceptional commitment as healthcare frontliners during this COVID-19 pandemic and to a community organization that has been active in staging plays that display Filipino-American activism in theater. This year’s Outstanding Filipino-Americans in the Midwest are Dr. Dan Garganera (Physician), Joanne Turija (Registered Nurse), Emilio Nicolasin Jr. (Medical Technician) and CIRCA Pintig theater company.
Mr. Ruben Salazar, Cultural Director of the Philippine American Cultural Foundation, and Consul Ryan Gener, together with Cultural Officer Noly Dulay, presented the awards.
Mr. Salazar also delivered the closing remarks on behalf of the Filipino-American community. Mr. Jan Paul Ferrer, Ms. Alpha Nicolasin and Ms. Ginger Leopoldo served as masters of ceremonies. END
