PH Embassy in Buenos Aires Joins Fundación Unión International De Jóvenes in PH Day (Dia De Filipinas) Celebration

BUENOS AIRES 13 October 2020 – The Philippine Embassy in Buenos Aires joined the Fundación Unión International de Jóvenes (IYF-Argentina) in celebrating Philippine Day (Dia de Filipinas) on 09 October 2020 via a virtual ceremony on the Zoom platform. 

The celebration included an online lecture and educational adventure where around 90 Argentine youths learned Basic Filipino words and phrases, Filipino cuisine, traditional Filipino songs and dances, and virtually visited some tourist sites in the Philippines.

Christina Sunae, a famous chef and owner of the popular Filipino restaurant, Cantina Sunae, in Buenos Aires, shared her experiences on how she became a kusinera and her love of cooking. She gave a cooking demonstration of the popular Filipino dish, kinilaw, a raw seafood dish similar to ceviche. 

In her message, Philippine Ambassador to Argentina Linglingay F. Lacanlale expressed her appreciation to IYF-Argentina for dedicating a special day for the Philippines despite the constraints of holding a public event due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She congratulated IFY for its contribution in promoting greater awareness of the Philippines among the young people of Argentina and helping build bridges of understanding between them and the Filipino youth. Ambassador Lacanlale invited the youth participants to join in the upcoming Sentro Rizal lecture series later this October 2020. She also challenged the members of the IYF to help make a difference in this time of the pandemic by spreading the message in their communities to observe the safety protocols to fight the COVID-19 virus. 

IYF-Argentina sends its members as volunteers to work in its various missions in the Philippines for a year. The Foundation is an active partner of the Philippine Embassy in its cultural activities. END
