PH Ambassador to Laos Wows Ethnic Fashion Show with Traditional Lao Song

VIENTIANE 20 October 2020 – Philippine Ambassador to Laos Belinda M. Ante performed during the Ethnic Fashion Show of the Lao Handicraft Festival at the Lao-ITECC in Vientiane, Laos on 16 October 2020. The Fashion show was a collaboration between the Lao Handicrafts Association and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Women’s Circle in Vientiane.

Ambassador Ante sang “Duang Champa”, which is a song about Laos’ national flower dok champa (plumeria), and is considered to be one of Laos most famous songs. She was accompanied by Ambassadorial band Note Verbale, comprised of Cuban Ambassador Pablo Antonio Rodriguez Vidal on the claves, German Ambassador Jens Peter Lutkenherm on the drums, Canadian Chargé d’Affaires Timothy Edwards on keyboards, Institut Pasteur du Laos Representative of Laboratory Antony Black on saxophone, and GIZ Country Director Wolfgang Hannig on guitar. The performance was well received, especially by the Lao audience who were singing along.

The Lao Handicrafts Festival was established in 2002 and is currently on its 19th run. This year’s theme is“Craftmanship has become a touristic place that follows the path of our ancestors”, and the festival featured more than 200 handicraft shops selling Lao textiles (silk and cotton), rattan and bamboo products, and pottery, as well as demonstrations of handicraft production, trainings, and the ethnic fashion show. The Festival aimed to promote Lao products, preserve Lao craftmanship and ethnic handicrafts, and protect Lao national copyrights. END
