The webinar entitled “The Youth Celebrating 75 Years of the UN” is a revival of the university’s “JDC talks series”, where engaging, relevant and informative topics and issues on international relations are discussed to reinforce and support the knowledge of the students in the various subjects that are part of their foreign service undergraduate degree program.
Ambassador Feria provided a general overview of the UN which included the organizational structure and its primary objectives as an international organization. She also explained the UN’s historical evolution by closely looking at and highlighting the important UN events in Philippine diplomatic history.
The initiatives of the Philippines in the UN through the contribution of General Carlos P. Romulo, Salvador P. Lopez, Leticia Ramos-Shahani and Domingo Siazon were also discussed to show the Philippine-led contributions, in keeping with the spirit of the UN in achieving peace and security as well as improving the human rights of all peoples around the world. Ambassador Feria encouraged the students to join the foreign service and challenged them to make their mark in Philippine diplomacy.
The webinar also covered other topics such as the UN's response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the role of the youth in the UN from the perspective of a non-government organization (NGO).
