BERLIN 28 October 2020 – The Philippine Embassy in Berlin held a Virtual Recognition Day for Filipino Scholars who graduated or are about to complete their studies at various German institutions on 23 October 2020.
Philippine Ambassador to Germany Ma. Theresa Dizon-De Vega conveyed the congratulations of the Philippine Embassy to the 16 scholars who took part in the online recognition session with Vice Consul Mina Lim-Ganzon serving as the moderator.
The Filipino scholars completed or are about to complete their graduate and post-graduate studies in diverse fields such as Economics, Development Studies, Climate Studies, and Religious and Theological Studies.
The scholars were also able to interact with a special guest, Filipino Climate Scientist Tieza Santos, who is currently completing her Doctoral Studies at the University of Dresden. Ms. Santos completed earlier this year a one-year Environmental Studies Fellowship under the prestigious Alexander Von Humbolt Foundation International Fellowship Program.
Ms. Santos shared with the other Filipino scholars her own experiences doing graduate and research work in Europe and the challenges of determining future career pathways.
An engaging and lively discussion on career choices, building one’s area of expertise and giving back to one’s country and/or community took place during the virtual session.
As a token of appreciation for their collective contribution to raising the profile of Filipino scholars and researchers in Germany, all the graduates were given a specially commissioned token of appreciation by the Philippine Embassy in the form of a graphic art work by Filipino artist Nityalila Saulo who created a one-of-a-kind illustration of the word “Edukasyon” using the Filipino Baybayin script.
