MOSCOW 30 October 2020 – With about 200 Filipinos currently living in Armenia, including dozens stranded because of COVID-19, Philippine Embassy in Moscow, which covers Armenia, continues to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation, as well as the armed conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan and receives constant updates from the Philippine Honorary Consul General in Yerevan, Armenia Albert Taroyan.
There are currently no reported Filipinos in the area of armed conflict.
In a video conference conducted on 28 October 2020 between Embassy officers, Consul General Taroyan assured that “Yerevan is in no danger.” He also said that while there is some restriction on travel because of COVID-19, “flights are available going out of Yerevan (including flights to Manila via Dubai and Qatar operated by Fly Dubai and Qatar Airways) and everything is normal in Armenia.”
The Embassy’s officers also discussed with Consul General Taroyan various contingency plans, including emergency evacuation scenarios and logistics and emergency supplies, if the conflict further escalates.
The Philippine Consulate General in Yerevan earlier assisted the Philippine Embassy in Moscow in providing emergency food assistance to the Filipinos who became jobless and displaced due to the pandemic.
The Embassy likewise has endorsed to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) the request of a few dozen Filipinos in Armenia, who were displaced by the COVID-19 pandemic, for Philippine Government assistance for repatriation.
The Embassy had earlier issued an advisory (Advisory No. 88-2020) requesting Filipinos in Armenia to avoid travelling to the conflict areas and to monitor and obey instructions of Armenian authorities. END
