hanoi09 May 2014 - Asia Art Link-Vietnam organized an international fund-raising exhibit featuring artists from the Philippines, Vietnam and Malaysia, to benefit the victims of Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in the Philippines. The exhibit, entitled “After the Storm” or “Recovery After the Storm,” was displayed at the Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts from April 11 to 17.

 

The opening ceremony for the exhibit was held on the evening of April 11. Present during the ceremony were Philippine Ambassador to Vietnam Jerril G. Santos, Director General Ms. Dian Thi Thu Huong from the Department of Artistry of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST) of Vietnam, Hanoi University of Culture President Dr. Nguyen Van Cuong and Head of Asia Art Link-Vietnam and contributing artist Trinh Tuan.

 

Ambassador Santos delivered an inspirational message which expressed the Philippines’ gratitude and appreciation for the humanitarian efforts of the Vietnamese government and the people for the benefit of the disaster-affected communities.

 

The guests were also entranced by an interesting and touching display of Art in Motion by the artists using rice grains.

 

Filipino-made artworks featured in the exhibit included “Existence” by Dennis Gonzales, an untitled steel artwork by Roen; a painting called “Chasing the Dreams” by Noel Pama which used oil on canvas; a painting called “Indomitable Boatment” by Buds Convocar which used mixed media; a painting called “Prophecy” by Florencio Cinco which used ink on canvas made by Florencio Cinco; a painting called “Vines” by Norman Dreo which used oil on canvas; and an installation art consisting of a 100-piece serigraph on paper bag by “Buddy Ching.”

 

The exhibit also featured 11 paintings by Vietnamese artists. Some of the artists used lacquer as the medium of their paintings while other Vietnamese artists used the traditional acrylic or oil on canvas to express their thoughts and emotions.

 

The exhibit likewise showcased eight paintings from Malaysia by artists Ng Bee, Jack Ting, Low Seok Loo, Tan Keng Leong, Lem Tee Sin, Lee Chea Hong, Kim Ng and Chow Chin Chuan. These paintings used either acrylic or oil on canvas, and delivered messages of hope and healing, especially for the children.

 

Asia Art Link plans to bring the exhibit to other parts of the world in the coming months. END
