PH Consulate General in Honolulu Joins the Celebration of Filipino- American History Month in Hawaii

HONOLULU 02 November 2020 – The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu, in partnership with its stakeholders, organized a series of events from 04 to 30 October to celebrate Filipino American History Month (FAHM) in Hawaii.
Throughout the month, various activities and events were staged to bring awareness of the history, culture, and significant contributions of Filipinos in American politics, economics, culture, and society. These activities include a virtual flag raising ceremony with Mayor Michael Victorino spearheaded by the Maui Filipino Chamber of Commerce, the East-West Center Arts Program which featured “Gangsa Music and Dance in the Philippines”, academic discussions in partnership with Farrington High School Filipino American Club and the Filipino American National Historical Society, “Hip Hop Tinikling (Virtual) Workshop”, among others.
Moreover, a special event was also to mark the 30th anniversary of the publication of the first volume of Voices of the Youth, which featured compositions that provided windows to the lives of young Filipino and Filipino Americans in Hawaii.
