Nine Stranded Filipino Seafarers on their Journey Home

DJIBOUTI 24 November 2020 — The nine Filipino seafarers aboard MV Arybbas, a vessel abandoned by its owner at the Port of Djibouti, are expected to arrive home to the Philippines on 24 November 2020, after being stranded for more than fourteen months.

The Filipino Seafarers, led by Capt. Salvador Villaflo, disembarked from the ship on 19 November. They were visited by the Philippine Embassy Assistance-To-Nationals (ATN) Mission Team, headed by Philippine Ambassador to Egypt Sulpicio M. Confiado and accompanied by Vice Consul Bojer Capati and ATN Officer Walter Rosario the next day.

The seafarers were all in high spirits and were looking forward to being reunited with their families. They expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the untiring efforts of the Philippine government in resolving the issue and in making representation with the Government of Djibouti.  END
