KL Visit of DOST officials

09 May 2014 - The Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur received a delegation from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) that was in Malaysia for a study mission on halal from May 4 to 10.

Leading the delegation was Science and Technology Undersecretary for Regional Operations Dr. Carol M. Yorobe, accompanied by 12 DOST regional directors.  They paid a courtesy call on Embassy Charge d’Affaires (CDA) Medardo G. Macaraig on May 8.

During their courtesy call, Undersecretary Yorobe shared their experiences during the study visit, where they visited several government ministries, institutions and companies involved in halal, as well as tour of Melaka’s halal hub.

They shared that the delegation learned a lot, which they will apply in the further development of the halal industry in the Philippines.

For his part, CDA Macaraig lauded the efforts undertaken by the DOST in its halal initiatives in the country, as it is not just to follow religious tenets, but also is a lifestyle choice, and a way to help in the country’s economic development.

He also highlighted the efforts undertaken by the Embassy to encourage halal tourism in the country and how strengthened training, halal certification standards, and encouraging more investments towards small and medium scale industries development could help in the development of Mindanao, particularly with the signing of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro.  END
