CALGARY 01 December 2020 – The Philippine Consulate General in Calgary launched the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) on 24 November 2020 at the Consulate’s premises as part of its Gender and Development (GAD) program.

The 18-Day Campaign to End VAW, an annual advocacy campaign held in the Philippines by virtue of Proclamation 1172 of 2006, will run from 25 November to 12 December 2020 with the theme “VAW-free community starts with Me.”

Philippine Consul General to Calgary Zaldy Patron briefed some applicants at the Consulate on 24 November 2020 about the background and objectives of the campaign and shared the study of the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) showing how the implementation of various community quarantine measures hindered victims in the Philippines from seeking help, reporting the abuse, and/or escaping their perpetrators.

Consul General Patron enjoined applicants to help in empowering the victims by teaching them their rights and informing them of available courses of actions. END
