PH Consulate General in Calgary Conducts Weekend Oath-Taking Ceremony for Filipino Citizens

CALGARY 03 December 2020 – The Philippine Consulate General in Calgary conducted oath-taking ceremonies for 82 former Filipinos who applied for Philippine citizenship re-acquisition and retention under Republic Act (RA) 9225 or the Citizenship Retention and Re-acquisition Act of 2003 on 28 November 2020.
RA9225 allows natural-born Filipinos who were naturalized in other countries to re-acquire or retain their Philippine citizenship after undergoing the procedure provided for under the said law.
The weekend oath-taking took place at the Consulate office on a staggered basis from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The Consulate’s personnel and the oath-takers strictly observed physical distancing, wearing of masks, and other public health measures.
In conducting the special oath-taking ceremony on a weekend, Philippine Consul General to Calgary Zaldy Patron said, “We noticed a surge in the number of RA9225 applications since the start of the pandemic so we decided to fast-track the processing of their applications by inviting some applicants to take their oath on a Saturday.”
Aside from conducting special oath-taking for RA9225 applicants on selected Saturdays, the Consulate have also moved its oath-taking ceremony from twice-a-week pre-pandemic to daily during the pandemic albeit with a maximum limit of 10 applicants. END
