PH Ambassador-Designate, Permanent Representative to UNESCAP Calls on UNESCAP Executive Secretary

BANGKOK 03 December 2020 – Philippine Ambassador-designate to Thailand and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) Millicent Cruz-Paredes paid an introductory call on UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of UNESCAP Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana.
Ambassador Paredes reiterated the commitment of the Philippines to closely work with UNESCAP Member States and the Secretariat. As the new Philippine Representative, she shared that her priority is to ensure the Philippines’ active engagement in the regional work towards “building back better” from the COVID-19 pandemic and other disasters such as typhoons and drought.
The Ambassadr added that the Philippine Embassy will consult with the ESCAP Secretariat Divisions on other activities and initiatives that the Philippines could advance. Ms. Alisjahbana, in turn, conveyed the ESCAP Secretariat’s appreciation for the support and active participation of the Philippines in the Commission’s programs and events.
They exchanged ideas on COVID-19-related mitigation and recovery plans in the Asia Pacific region and the importance of harnessing the region’s strengths to build back better.
Ambassador-designate Paredes arrived in the Kingdom of Thailand on 04 November 2020 to officially assume her duties. END
