PH Embassy in Yangon Shares Blessings for Christmas

YANGON 14 December 2020 – The Philippine Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar, as part of its 18-day Campaign to end Violence Against Women (VAW), visited St Mary’s Home on 10 December 2020 in Kyauktan, south of Yangon region to share some Christmas cheer.
The Embassy distributed individual hygiene kits containing toiletries, VAW-free designed reusable cloth masks and VAW-free T-shirts. The Embassy also turned over, in bulk, disinfectants and other household cleaning materials, underwear, instant noodles, electric fans, and slippers.
The Embassy personnel, led by Charge d’Affaires, a.i. Stephanie Alexis A. Cruz, were joined by the Office of the Defense and Armed Forces Attache personnel led by Col. Glenn Celebrado in this endeavor. Charge d’Affaires Cruz in her remarks explained to the children the importance of proper hygiene and being healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic. The visit to St. Mary’s Home is an annual Paskong Pinoy Program of the Embassy. For the year 2020, in light of the ongoing pandemic, the Embassy decided to modify the annual gift-giving program to give emphasis to hygiene needs of the children and to spread awareness on Gender-based violence.
St. Mary’s Home is an orphanage run by the Servite Sisters, a religious congregation of nuns affiliated with the religious order of Servi di Maria. Most of the girls in the orphanage are from conflict areas in Myanmar. END
