13 May 2014- The Philippine Embassy in Brussels began overseas voter registration on May 6 at the Chancery in Brussels.  The Embassy welcomed its first registrant at 9:30 a.m.

Most of the registrants were those who recently reacquired their Filipino citizenship.  The Embassy’s first two registrants, Ms. Nelly Tomogsoc of Siquijor and Ms Romela Sargado of Cebu City, recently took their oath as Filipino citizens under the dual citizenship law. They came to the Embassy on May 6 specifically to register as overseas voters.

Two applicants, Ms Dominique and Ms Danielle Rubas, are first-time voters.

On the same day, the Embassy launched its “Makilahok! Participate!” campaign to encourage the Filipino community to register.  The campaign features a colourful poster with the word “Makilahok” in English, as well as in French and Flemish (Belgium’s official languages).  The poster is showcased in the Embassy’s website and Facebook page. The Embassy also sent text messages and email broadcasts to members of the Filipino community to promote the overseas voters registration. END
