UNITED NATIONS, New York, 26 April 2021– Permanent Representative of the Philippines to the United Nations Ambassador Enrique A. Manalo was elected Chair of the 55th session of the UN Commission on Population and Development (CPD55) during its first meeting on 23 April 2021.
The Chairmanship of Ambassador Manalo showcases the Philippines’ strong commitment to protecting and advancing the gains of the 1994 Program of Action (PoA) of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), which underscores the integral and mutually reinforcing linkages between population and development.
For its 55th session, the Commission will focus on the theme of “Population and sustainable development, in particular, sustained and inclusive economic growth,” an area that corresponds to the development priorities of the Philippines and the goals of the country’s COVID-19 response and recovery efforts.
