BARCELONA 28 April 2021 – Seven Filipino films took the spotlight as Casa Asia Barcelona started their screening every Saturday, from 24 April to 05 June 2021. Bannering the theme, “The New Philippine Cinema”, the series features Philippine independent films helmed by a new generation of budding Filipino filmmakers.

The films include “Distance” (Perci Intalan, 2018), “Beautiful Pain” (Joji Villanueva, 2019), “Edward” (Thop Nazareno, 2019), “Iska” (Theodore Capistrano Boborol, 2019), “Kalel 15” (Jun Robles Lana, 2019), “Battered Husband” (Ralston Gonzalez Jover, 2020), and “In the Name of the Mother” (Joel Lamangan, 2020).

The series is a salute to the Philippine independent cinema for its contributions to the development of the film industry in Southeast Asia and its critical role in portraying the realities in the Philippines from the perspective of young Filipino filmmakers. The screening of the Philippine independent films comes on the heels of the Film Festival in Casa Asia held in November 2020 during which the film “Iska” won the best screenplay. END
