BRUSSELS 06 May 2021 – On 30 April 2021, the Philippine Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg, and the European Union, Eduardo José A. de Vega, delivered a virtual lecture on Philippine foreign policy to officials and approximately 50 students taking their executive master’s programs in international politics and in governance and development policy at the Centre Européen de Recherches Internationales & Stratgégiques – Université Libre de Bruxelles(CERIS-ULB) Diplomatic School of Brussels.

Among the topics discussed were the three pillars of Philippine foreign policy; the role of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the Southeast Asian region and its distinction from the European Union; and the country’s position on the South China Sea issue. During the question and answer segment, students mostly asked about the country’s best practices in protecting its citizens abroad, as well as on the conduct of overseas voting. The Philippines’ experience in overseas labor protection and overseas voting was clearly recognized by these future diplomats from all over the world.

Established in 1985, CERIS-ULB Diplomatic School of Brussels offers executive master’s programs dedicated to postgraduate training in the fields of international relations, development policy, and diplomacy. Its programs are designed specifically for diplomats, international civil servants, corporate executives, and journalists. END
