milan19 May 2014- Philippine Consul General in Milan Marichu Mauro met with Director Raffaela Scalisi of the Comune di Milano on May 15 to thank the city of Milan for its hospitality to the Filipino migrants living and working there. The meeting also explored opportunities on how to strengthen ties between the Philippines and the city of Milan.

 

Milan is home to the largest Filipino community in Northern Italy.

 

The Consul General expressed gratitude for the city’s assistance, including that of the Archdiocese of Milan,  for the rehabilitation efforts for the areas affected by typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).

 

Both officials agreed to continue collaboration on projects that will benefit the Filipino population in Milan and to help the Filipinos better integrate into the Italian society by providing important information related to migration procedures and ways on how Filipinos can take part in the city government’s initiatives. Filipino associations are encouraged to share their contributions through involvement in the city’s projects on social cohesion and socio-economic development.

 

The Milan city government, as host of EXPO 2015, likewise extends the invitation to foreign communities to participate in the Expo in Città, which will be a series of events running alongside EXPO 2015.

 

Mrs. Scalisi assumed the position as Director for International Relations of the Comune di Milano in April 2014. Her office handles all relations of the city of Milan with other countries and the international community. END
