Athens Donsol exhibit1

08 July 2013 - The Philippine Embassy in Athens, in cooperation with the Film Development Council of the Philippines and the Independent Science and Technology (IST) College, hosted the film screening of “Donsol” on July 03 at IST College in Athens.

The film screening was attended by guests from the diplomatic corps, the academe, and the Greek private sector. Some Filipino community members from Bicol, the film’s location, also attended the screening.

The beautiful seaside town of Donsol, as well as the amazing underwater shots of the whale sharks, awed and impressed the viewers.

A simple reception preceded the film showing, where guests were treated to Filipino dishes and desserts such as adobo flakes, beef embotido balls, puto, fruit salad, and Philippine mango juice

Athens Donsol exhibit2“Donsol” is an independent Filipino film written and directed by Adolfo Alix, Jr. The movie, which was shot entirely in Donsol, Sorsogon in the Philippines, is a love story between Daniel, a whaleshark or butanding interaction officer, and Teresa, a mysterious visitor from Manila. Aside from Daniel and Teresa’s story, the movie also touches on issues such as poaching and its effects to marine life and to the livelihood of the local townsfolk.

The film won international and local awards including the “Spirit of the Independent Award” at the Ft. Lauderdale International Film Festival in 2006 and the “Best Cinematography” and “Best Performance of an Actress” awards at the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival of the Philippines in 2006. END
