Philippine-Bahrain Cooperation Leads to Successful Deportation of Wanted Individual
MANAMA 14 July 2021 – As a testament to their intensified commitment to fight criminality and bring law offenders to justice, the Philippines and the Kingdom of Bahrain successfully worked towards the deportation of a wanted individual back to Bahrain on 02 July 2021.
A team of police escorts from Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior travelled to the Philippines to receive the deportee from officers of the Philippine Bureau of Immigration’s Interpol Unit in the presence of a team from the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs of the Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila who were on hand to provide assistance during the transfer of the detainee.
Records show that the Bahraini national who assaulted a female victim at his apartment fled to the Philippines in 2016. Upon the request of Bahrain authorities, officials of the Philippine Bureau of Immigration arrested the individual at his residence in Dasmariñas, Cavite on 23 February 2021. A summary deportation order was thereafter issued by the BI’s Board of Commissioners to expel him from the country.
The Philippine Embassy in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain coordinated the mission to implement the agreement between Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro B. Locsin, Jr., and H.E. Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain in a meeting held via video conference on 12 March 2021.
