Focus on Maritime Affairs as PH Ambassador to Iraq Meets Former Deputy Foreign Minister and Foreign Advisor

BAGHDAD 15 July 2021 — In observance of the 5th Anniversary of the issuance of the Award on the South China Sea Arbitration, Ambassador Generoso D.G. Calonge called on H.E. Mohammad al-Haj Hamoud, former Deputy Foreign Minister and Advisor of the Foreign Minister of Iraq on UNCLOS and maritime affairs.
Prior to his posting in Iraq, Ambassador Calonge was the Assistant Secretary of Maritime and Oceans Affairs Office (MOAO) in the DFA. The two maritime experts exchanged views on present issues and common interest in maritime affairs. They both agreed that disputes with neighboring states on maritime territories could be resolved through diplomatic channels or resort to international tribunals.
Dr. Hamour handed over a book he wrote on International Law of the Sea to Ambassador Calonge. He said that the book, written in Arabic, is required reading in many universities in Arab countries. END
