21 May 2014- Philippine Ambassador to Mexico, Catalino R. Dilem, Jr. was interviewed on the popular primetime television program, Televisa Noticiera Nocturno, last May 13. It was hosted by Lic. Manuel Zamadio, a well-respected television newscaster in Acapulco.
During the interview, Ambassador Dilem imparted his message of goodwill to the citizens of Acapulco and reminded them of the shared identity between Filipinos and Mexicans due to the 250-year long Manila-Acapulco galleon trade. This prompted Mr. Zamadio to ask the Ambassador about Mexican influences on the Philippines. Ambassador Dilem enumerated several cultural influences, particularly in the areas of Philippine cuisine, clothes, and even language. Ambassador Dilem was accompanied by Philippine Honorary Consul to Acapulco Mario de la O Almazan and Administrative Officer Bernardo Bagalay.
In the morning of May 14, Ambassador Dilem administered the oath of office to Philippine Honorary Consul in Acapulco, Dr. Mario de la O Almazan. The ceremony was held at the Urdaneta Room of the Hotel Elcano with representatives of the public and private sectors of the State of Guerrero in attendance. Ambassador Dilem noted the Honorary Consul’s laudable performance in discharging his duties and informed those present that the appointment papers and oath-taking ceremony simply served to confirm the Honorary Consul’s hard work and dedication.
Ambassador Dilem also met with representatives from the tourism and business sectors of Acapulco and discussed possible ways to increase trade and tourism exchanges between the Philippines and Mexico.
Consular services were likewise provided by Mr. Bagalay during the visit to Acapulco. END
