21 May 2014- With the registration of its first overseas voter, the Philippine Embassy in Mexico successfully launched its registration and certification of qualified overseas voters for the 2016 Presidential, Senatorial and Party-List Elections. The registration/certification of qualified voters in countries under the Embassy’s jurisdiction is mandated by the Commission on Elections under Republic Act No. 8189, otherwise known as the "The Voters Registration Act of 1996".

Ms. Ma. Anna Lyne Mendoza of Calapan, Oriental Mindoro is the Embassy’s first overseas voting registrant. At 3:00 p.m. of May 15, Mr. Randy S. Hilot, the Embassy’s voter registration machine operator, accepted Ms. Mendoza's application for registration. Third Secretary and Vice Consul Mikhal C. de Dios and Administrative Officer Bernardo G. Bagalay were also on hand to witness the registration process.

As a first-time overseas voter, Ms. Mendoza expressed her appreciation for the Embassy’s assistance in allowing her to exercise her right to vote in the upcoming elections even while living in a foreign country.

The Embassy will continue to conduct its information dissemination campaign for overseas voting registration through the various social networks that it has established with the Filipino community as well as the posting of announcements within the Embassy premises. Officers and staff of the Embassy will continue to encourage qualified voters to register in order to exercise their right to suffrage.

Applications for registration/certification and transfer of registration records may be filed at the Embassy until October 31, 2015. END
