21 May 2014- The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu joined the Ilocos Surian Association of Hawaii, whose 2,500 members hail from the different towns and cities in Ilocos Sur, during the group’s Re-affirmation of Elected Officers ceremony last May 17 at the Hale Ikena Ballroom in Fort Shafter US Army Base, Hawaii.

US Senator Brian Schatz keynoted the event.  

In his speech, Sen. Schatz praised the Filipino community for maintaining their ties to their hometowns and country, saying that they, with their large number, can do much to make Hawaii a better place to live.

The highlight of the evening was a skit about Diego Silang and Gabriela Silang, Ilocanos who led revolts against Spain. Consul Roberto T. Bernardo administered the Oath of Office to the officers of the Ilocos Surian Association of Hawaii, and also used the occasion to campaign for overseas voters registration. END
