PHNOM PENH 10 August 2021 — An online business matching activity was organized by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia (PhilCham Cambodia) and Philippine Franchise Association (PFA) in cooperation with the Philippine Trade and Investment Center - Bangkok (PTIC-Bangkok) and Philippine Embassy in Cambodia on 05 August 2021.

The activity featured five Philippine brands--Bench, Jollibee, Kerrimo, Mr. Quickie, and Penshoppe--which met and discussed potential partnerships with four Cambodian companies.

In her remarks, Philippine Ambassador to Cambodia Maria Amelita C. Aquino highlighted the importance of Philippine franchise brands’ expansion in Cambodia due to “much potential and opportunities in the Cambodian market with its young population and growing middle-class." She also referred to Cambodia’s positive economic growth projections announced by the Asian Development Bank, International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank based on the vaccination plan of the Cambodian government.

PFA President Ms. Sherill R. Quintana, on the other hand, emphasized that despite the current circumstances, PFA is carrying out various activities to support its members, some of which are already present in several countries and some who are prepared for and seeking international expansion.

Meanwhile, PhilCham Cambodia President Ms. Benilda Custodio Fernando warmly welcomed the participating Philippine and Cambodian companies and cited how the online activity serves as a positive signal for future collaborations between Philippine and Cambodian companies.

Prior to the August 05 activity, an online webinar “Discovery Day Cambodia” was conducted on 29 July 2021 to provide PFA members relevant information on doing business in Cambodia.

At present, Philippine franchise companies Potato Corner and Yellow Cab are operating in Cambodia and are well-received by locals and Filipinos alike. Other known Philippine brands doing business in Cambodia are Unilab, Liwayway, San Miguel, Davies Paints, Philippine Airlines, Profood, and Purefoods.

Bilateral trade between the Philippines and Cambodia reached 58.5 million in 2020 according to data from the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry. END
