Asian Consulates in San Francisco Show Solidarity Against Antiasian Hate in a Webinar

SAN FRANCISCO 17 August 2021 - Eight Asian Consulates General in San Francisco which include the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, China, India, Japan and the Republic of Korea collaborated with Asia Society Northern California in organizing “Strengthening Solidarity Against Asian Hate: A Webinar by Asian Consulates General in San Francisco” on 9 August in an effort to counter anti-Asian hate sentiments and crimes perpetrated in the United States.

The online discussion attended by more than 170 participants featured California State Senator Dave Min, Assembly Member (Asm.) Al Muratsuchi and Assembly Member (Asm.) Phil Ting, Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis, Attorney General Rob Bonta, and Asian community leaders in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Philippine Consul General in San Francisco Neil Frank R. Ferrer, who spoke on behalf of ASEAN Consuls General in San Francisco, thanked the speakers for their valuable contribution to the discussion and the Consulate of Japan in San Francisco for co-organizing the online event.

“Everyone stands to benefit from a harmonious and peaceful co-existence of all people – regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, religion or beliefs,” said Consul General Ferrer affirming the ASEAN Consuls General’s continued support for the U.S. Government’s ongoing efforts to address the root causes of racism and hate directed against members of the Asian community.

Asia Society Northern California Executive Director Margaret Conley served as host of the online discussion, which was co-organized by the Asian Consulates in San Francisco, led by the Japanese and Philippine Consulates General. END
