PH Embassy in Vietnam Holds Online Singing Workshop to Celebrate Buwan Ng Wikang Filipino

HANOI 26 August 2021 — In celebration of Buwan ng Wikang Filipino, the Philippine Embassy in Vietnam organized an Online Singing Workshop on 21 August 2021. Filipino students and teachers participated in the workshop. The workshop featured the popular Philippine folk song "Kalesa" composed by National Artist for Literature/Music Levi Celerio.
Ms. Dulce Maria Buena, a music teacher in the Philippines, guided the participants in learning the rhythm, melody, and tempo of the song. The workshop focused on basic learning objectives of singing which is listening and developing the participants' auditory memory.
The workshop concluded with a mini concert led by Ms. Buena with selected members of Camarines Sur's Baao Youth Choir. They sang popular Philippine folk songs from Luzon and Visayas such as “Sitsiritsit”, “Si Pilemon”, “Manang Biday”, “Sarung Banggi”, “Dandansoy”, “Mamang Sorbetero”, and “Paru-Parong Bukid” allowing participants to experience the richness of Philippine music.
The participants expressed their appreciation to the efforts made by the Philippine Embassy in introducing Philippine folk music to the Filipino community in Vietnam, especially the students. END
