THE HAGUE 30 September 2021 – The Common Fund for Commodities (CFC) calls on Philippine companies to apply for support of their commodity development activities on 22 September 2021.

The CFC primarily provides loan financing support with following areas: working capital and trade finance, financing of capital expenditures, and development impact-related finance in the form of development impact bonds.

CFC Managing Director Ambassador Sheikh Mohammed Belal conveyed the call for proposals during the courtesy visit of Philippine Ambassador to the Netherlands J. Eduardo Malaya at the CFC Headquarters in Amsterdam to discuss cooperation between the Philippines and the CFC.

Those eligible to apply for CFC support are public and private entities that operate in commodity value chains or provide financial services to micro, small and medium sized businesses operating in these value chains, and have a proven relevant track record of sound financial operations in their current and/or proposed activities over a period of at least 3 years.

The call for proposals is open until 15 October 2021.

Established in 1989, the CFC is an autonomous intergovernmental financial institution undertaking impact investments in the agricultural sector. It was created within the auspices of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.

Since 1993, the CFC supported 11 agricultural projects in the Philippines, including a current project with Kennemer Foods International Inc., an agribusiness company based in Davao City specializing in growing, sourcing and trading fermented cacao beans.

Ambassador Malaya affirmed the Philippines’ strong support for the programs and initiatives of the CFC, particularly its project financing and technical assistance to the agricultural sector designed to increase productivity and help eradicate poverty.
