STOCKHOLM 09 September 2021 – Philippine Ambassador to Sweden Maria Lumen B. Isleta called on Ambassador Niclas Kvarnström, Head of the Department for Asia and the Pacific on 08 September 2021, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden.

During the meeting, both parties expressed delight with the arrival of Ambassador-designate Annika Gunilla Thurnborg in Manila and looked forward to stronger cooperation between both countries, particularly in the economic front, through the possible conduct of Philippines-Sweden bilateral consultations next year, which Sweden is scheduled to host, as well as two-way business delegation visits.

Ambassador Kvarnström acknowledged the upcoming 75th anniversary commemoration of Philippines-Sweden Diplomatic Relations in 2022 and expressed the hope that both Ambassador Isleta and Ambassador Thunborg will work closely in planning out activities to commemorate such an important milestone.

Ambassador Isleta conveyed appreciation for SwedBank’s continued support for the modernization of the Philippine transport system. She likewise noted that the current e-Bus system being used at the Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA), was a product of a study previously carried out through a technical assistance grant by SwedBank. Ambassador Isleta stated that the Philippines had much to learn from Sweden in using state of the art technology and added that she intends to focus on trying to bring such technologies to the Philippines.

Ambassador Kvarnström expressed the hope that the Philippines, as the next Chair of the ASEAN-EU Cooperation, will be able to work on strengthening ASEAN-EU Strategic Partnership. END
